Sorry to hear about this. Did it crash immediately from install or did you use the application for a bit first? What version of iOS is your phone running?

When an app crashes it writes a crash report that can help developers track down the cause. If you could send over the crash reports from your phone using the instructions below then that will help us identify what has gone wrong. Thanks.

Here are the steps you need to follow to get the crash reports.

iTunes copies the report to a directory on the user's computer when the device is synchronized. Depending on the platform, the directory is:

- Mac OS X: ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter/MobileDevice/<DEVICE_NAME>
- Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\<USERNAME>\Application Data\Apple Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<DEVICE_NAME>
- Windows Vista: C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Apple
Computer\Logs\CrashReporter\MobileDevice\<DEVICE_NAME>

<USERNAME> is the user's login name for the computer. <DEVICE_NAME> is the name of the iPod touch or iPhone, for example, "My iPhone".

We only need the .crash files. The crash report's file name begins with the application name and contains date/time information. In addition, <DEVICE_NAME> will appear at the end of the file name, before the extension.

Having said this, if you have just started and are not going to lose much work then just re-installing the app may be the quickest way to get going again. Sorry for the inconvience.

This sort of problem normally indicates something going on with the local network configuration. If you've tried rebooting your phone then other users have managed to get things connected with a reboot of their wireless router. That might help solve your problem.

If you can reboot the router then open the app and tap the sync button, more than likely the url will have changed so you will need to make sure the one you type into your browser matches up again.

If this still doesn't work then have a go at this. The url will be displayed as the following on the StoreIt Link screen on your phone: http://<ip-address>:<port-no>/ (e.g. http://192.168.0.2:49698). While the StoreIt Link screen is displayed open a Command Prompt/Terminal window on your desktop computer and type in: ping <ip-address> (e.g. ping 192.168.0.2). It should respond with:

Reply from <ip-address> ....

several times. This checks whether you can see the phone on your network at all. If it doesn't respond correctly (will probably say "Request timed out." then this points to a network issue. Is it possible that their is a firewall blocking the connection to your phone?

Hope this helps.

Greetings -

I just purchased the StoreIT Pro (8-JAN-2012) and installed on iPhone 4. I created a new category, created and saved a record and shut down the app. Re-started the app and attempted a connection with web browser on PC. No web page or connection was available. The address was: http://192.168.1.2:55408/

I tried shutting down and re-booting the iPhone. Re-started the app and tried to get a browser link but same result - no such site is available to the browser. iPhone is definitely connected to WiFi network. Tried with Firefox and Chrome browsers. Same failure. Any ideas would be appreciated. The ability to access the DB from a PC was the reason I chose this app over the multitude of others.

Thanks in advance -

A new version of SQLConsole (1.4.0) has been submitted to Apple for approval which should offer more consistent connectivity on iOS5. The reported problem was not consistent across all devices/setups. The update also aims to fix a long standing problem with the saving and recovery of favourite commands on some devices. We'll let you know when it's available.

I have just upgraded from Iphone 3GS to Iphone 4S. All my apps seemed to be backed up in iTunes but pretty much none of my data. StoreIt is on the new phone but none of the critical passwords etc that were stored in it. I managed to get the PC to suck the data out of the old phone, but can't see any way of putting it into the new phone. I did try to use the browser on the new phone to suck the data from the old one, but whilst it appeared game to start with it then said it couldn't when the chips were down - very frustrating.

Can you please help..

Also, after an iOS upgrade it is possible that the ip address or port number on the connection details displayed on the app screen will have changed 'http://ip-address:port-no/'. Could you also confirm what you entered in your browser matched what was displayed on the screen? Thanks.

When an app crashes it writes a crash report that can help developers track down the cause.

If you could send over the crash reports from your phone using the instructions below then that will help us identify what has gone wrong. Please send to contact [at] database4iphone [dot] com. Thanks.

There is no trap on memory or paging for large results at present. It's possible that it is running out of memory as it reads this large result set.

Do you need to see all those results at the same time? One thing you could do is add a "LIMIT n" at the end of the query to restrict the number of results returned to some 'n'. SQLite also supports "OFFSET m" to offset into a result set as well so "... LIMIT 10 OFFSET 10" at the end of a query would get the results from 10 through to 19. Hope this is useful.

At the moment checkboxes are just 2 value fields, either checked (true) or unchecked(false). There is no 'empty' entry. I appreciate it might be useful in certain situations but it not on the roadmap at the moment (but we'll add it to the list of potentials).

I guess if you wanted this then you could simulate with a 2 value drop down (Field Values -> Choose One From) with the values Yes and No (or True and False).

It would be useful to have an "X" in addition to the checkmark (and nothing) as options in the checkmark field. This would avoid the potential ambiguity of an empty checkmark field meaning something doesn't exist, or that the person entering data doesn't know if it exists. Three taps could cycle between "check", "x", "empty".

Hello. I have a category named "Places", which contains a category field named "Lodging". This includes a category field named "Price". The logic is that a "Place" can have multiple "Lodgings", and a "Lodging" can have multiple "Prices" (different types of rooms, etc.). The problem is with the "Prices" category - if I create a new place, then a new lodging, then add a price and tap "Save", the price record is lost. If I save the "Lodging" record first, I can then add and save the "Price" record, but this requires extra steps and isn't intuitive for the user.

At present there is no desktop version of StoreIt for data entry. The only option for off-phone access is to use a desktop tool to generate a comma or tab separated file for input (such as Excel that you mention). I appreciate this is not always the most straightforward approach.

Just purchased StoreIt. Looks cool. Q: Other than importing from another DB such as Excel, is it possible to import from a computer-input version of StoreIt? Probably a dumb question. I have a lot of data that is not currently stored in a DB and the thought of keying it all in on my iPhone's tiny keys makes my head ache. Setting up an Excel document exactly right so that it will import easily to StoreIt may be beyond my ordinary-user capability. Is there a computer-input version of StoreIt?

Can I import data from a public web service? If not, this would be a fantastic feature and attract a lot more customers for you. For example I have thousands of users of my software product that would like to download data to their iPhones. I can either build a specialised app at great expense to my company or else suggest that they buy a copy of store-it and access their data through my website. If you don't offer this service but would like to, I would be happy to work with you to make it happen.

Search and replace might be tricky for picking out the right lines to move. I guess an option would be to build an Excel macro (or possibly a set of formulas) that moved the text to where you wanted it from the nested data. The would be dependent on the category name in the first exported column. Could set up two sheets with the first where you paste the exported data into and the second that copies the data from the first sheet into the 'right' places.

You can export filemaker tables as tab delimited text files and then import using the web interface, but you need to create the 'category' first on your iPhone with the same number of fields as in the table. There's a FAQ on importing text files into Storeit. Cheers

There is a nested item so the exported text file has a carriage return in each line.
I guess I can do a 'search and replace' in the text file.
Is there another option?

The 3 additional fields at the start of each line are not necessary for import if the category does not contain any nested data. If a field has an embedded carriage return then this will be exported, but on export it should be possible to select to surround fields with quotes(") and these should then get imported okay.

I am trying to import category data into an Excel spreadsheet.
There are items in the delimited text file that I don't understand and would like not to be there; there is a 3-digit entries after the category name (e.g. 344) and before the last field
Also, the entry is split over 2 lines with a carriage return in the middle of each entry
If I can fix the fact that the entry is over two lines, then when importing the data I can just not import the columns with the 3-digit codes.
Please advise how to fix this behaviour

You can rearrange fields by using the 'grabber' bars on the right of the field name list. Just press and hold down and you can move the field. You'll see them in this screenshot: http://www.database4iphone.com/wp-content/uploads/faq1-11.png. (They are the 3 horizontal bars.)

I created a catagory then began editing the fields. I needed to insert a field between 2 other fields but was not able to. I had to create the field at the end of the other fields. I was also not able to rearrange the order of the fields. The only option I can see is to delete the other fields below the one I want to insert and recreate them in the order I want. My question is: Can you rearrange the order of the fields after the catagory is created. I need it to match the order of the spreadsheet I am importing. Thanks, Brad
